We have zeroed on 20 players for World Cup 2019: M S K Prasad

We have zeroed on 20 players for World Cup 2019: M S K Prasad .

26 December 2018

A day after BCCI announced 16-member squad for the twin ODI series versus Australia, New Zealand, MSK Prasad revealed that the committee have 'zeroed on 20 players for World Cup 2019'.
Chief Indian selector MSK Prasad, on Tuesday morning (December 25) clarified that the three-member selection committee of the BCCI has enlisted 20 cricketers for the forthcoming ICC World Cup 2019 slated to be played in England and Wales in the summer of 2019. Prasad's comment came a day after BCCI announced the 16-member squad for the twin ODI series against Australia (starting January 12) and New Zealand (starting January 23).
The selectors have dropped Manish Pandey, Umesh Yadav, Rishabh Pant and Shardul Thakur from the squad they had announced for the last ODI series India played - against West Indies in late October. Meanwhile, the announcement witnesses the return of MS Dhoni from hibernation and fit-again Hardik Pandya and Kedar Jadhav are also part of the squad. The only new addition to the squad has been Dinesh Karthik, who was dropped for the Windies contest after Asia Cup 2018.
While there was joy among Indian fans for the return of Dhoni, the announcement also created a debate as to whether Pant's ODI hopes are all over until 2019 World Cup. Clarifying that he stays in the mix of plans for the selectors, the committee has zeroed in on 20 crickets for the coveted tournament who will feature over the next eight ODIs.
“As we are coming near to the World Cup we are left with few ODIs. So more or less it is a core team. We have zeroed on 20 members. Only those 20 members will be figuring from now on,” Prasad told reporters in Melbourne.
Does this imply the above excluded four - Manish Pandey, Umesh Yadav, Rishabh Pant and Shardul Thakur - are still part of the World Cup plans? If so, it will clearly indicate that the doors are closed Test vice-captain Ajinkya Rahane and premier spinner R Ashwin.
India's squad for ODI series against Australia and New Zealand: Virat Kohli (Capt), Rohit Sharma (VC), KL Rahul, Shikhar Dhawan, Ambati Rayudu, Dinesh Karthik, Kedar Jadhav, MS Dhoni (WK), Hardik Pandya, Kuldeep Yadav, Yuzvendra Chahal, Ravindra Jadeja, Bhuvneshwar Kumar, Jasprit Bumrah, Khaleel Ahmed, Mohammed Shami.
